His 1947 death certificate says he was a fireman at Gardner Richardson (same paper/box plant that Arvid worked at) when he died at 48 (of congestive heart failure). His wife Otta was the informant. They are buried together in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, Preble County, Ohio, and it appears they divorced and remarried, the first certificate being from Frenchburg, Menifee County, KY, in 1917 (divorce in 1929, per the second marriage certificate) and then remarried in Richmond, Wayne County, IN.
