- ↑ Edwin Ray Short went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Thursday night, February 26, 2026, at 11:35 p.m. He was 94 years old. Born in Middletown, Ohio on November 26, 1931, Thanksgiving Day. He was the son Courtney Lee Short Sr. and Minnie Ann (Foster) Short. When he was a teenager, he helped take care of his grandmother Louella Foster. She was bedridden for the last 5 years of her life due to rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. She was a witness to Edwin about Jesus and how Jesus gave her strength to get through the pain. She told him to start attending the First Church of God across the street from their house. He did what she asked, and he gave his heart to Jesus and started studying his bible. If not for his grandmother, he might not have gone to any church or ask Jesus to forgive him of his sins and to be born again. He loves telling people about Jesus. He told me many times “Cathy, don’t worry about me, I’ll be with the Lord and your mom. I want you to be happy!” He was the Sunday School treasurer for First Church of God and taught Sunday School for years. He studied the Bible over his lifetime and knew the Bible well. Some of his favorite verses were Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”, Jeremiah 29:13; John 3:16 “Jesus is the only way, no man comes to the father but through Jesus.” Luke 24 entire chapter, the Resurrection. 1 Corin 13 entire chapter about love, and Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” On November 3, 1950, he married the love of his life Marilyn Faye (Ferrell) Short. They met in church. She sang in the choir at the First Church of God in Middletown, Ohio. They were married for 75 years. Edwin was in the Army for 5 years. He was a Sargent First Class, stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. He spent most of his time training soldiers to use the large guns in the White Sands, New Mexico desert. Edwin Short was preceded in death by his Marilyn Faye Short; parents, Courtney and Minnie Short; siblings, Courtney L. (Vivian) Short Jr., Kenneth Short, Richard Short, Robert Short, James Allen Short, Shirley (Short) Crowe, and David Short. Edwin is survived by his loving daughter Cathy (Short) Hoefling and her husband Robert of Ocoee, Florida; granddaughter, Robyn Faye (Chris) Dunn; great grandchildren Gavin and Aslyn; sister-in-law, Sandra Ferrell of Mulberry, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his many loved ones and friends.
